0 Quick Apply Full-time 2 hours ago Full Job Description The referral coordinator is responsible for coordinating out-patient testing and specialist referrals, and for verifying the corresponding benefits.
The referral coordinator works with patients, insurance carriers, and physician offices in a professional and courteous manner.
The referral coordinator is responsible for maintaining a well-organized work station and documenting benefits, appointments, and orders in the practice management and electronic medical records systems.
Job Duties Coordinates benefits prior to in-office procedures - verifies benefits via telephone or internet, contacts the patient to advise of benefits, scans benefits into EMR system, and schedules appointment for patient Completes prior authorizations for medications as required by Pharmacy Coordinates precertification on major outpatient procedures including CT and MRI - calls insurance company and documents in EMR Coordinates referrals to other physician offices and physical therapists - receives message in EMR requesting referral, schedules appointment for patient, advises patient of appointment time and place, faxes records to physician office and completes electronic referral in EMR Maintain ongoing tracking and appropriate documentation on referrals to promote team awareness and ensure patient safety.
This tracking is performed using the electronic medical record.
Ensure complete and accurate registration, including patient demographic and current insurance information.
Assemble information concerning patient's clinical background and referral needs.
Per referral guidelines, provide appropriate clinical information to specialist.
Contact review organizations and insurance companies to ensure prior approval requirements are met.
Present necessary medical information such as history, diagnosis and prognosis.
Provide specific medical information to financial services to maximize reimbursement to the physician.
Review details and expectations about the referral with patients.
Assist patients in problem solving potential issues related to the health care system, financial or social barriers (e.
g.
request interpreters as appropriate, transportation services or prescription assistance.
).
Ensure that referrals are addressed in a timely manner.
Ensure that patient's primary care chart is up to date with information on specialist consults, hospitalization, ER visits and community organization related to their health.
Addresses questions from patients via telephone and in person related to outpatient appointments and procedures.
Covers other areas as needed; these include by not limited to:
front desk.
Job Requirements Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patients, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
Basic skills using MS Excel and MS Word.
Ability to handle a high volume of patient flow with comfort and confidence.
Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT codes for the purpose of authorizations.
Knowledge of insurance plans and their rules.
Qualifications Requires:
High school diploma or GED.
One to three years' experience, or the equivalent, in a community-based primary care practice with duties in leading care coordination.
Ability to work with interruptions and manage multiple priorities; Attention to detail Exceptional verbal communication skills.
Culturally effective capabilities demonstrating a sensitivity and responsiveness to varying cultural characteristics and beliefs.
Bilingual:
English/Spanish, depending on location preferred.
Ability to operate computers and other office machines Must be able to take responsibility and work under pressure Knowledge of medical terminology, referral policies/procedures, and health insurance plans (including ICD-9 and CPT codes) Strong computer skills and ability to use office equipment such as photocopier, fax machine, and multiline phone system; legible handwriting All Calvary Medical Clinic employees will be expected to fulfill any position or perform any job tasks as assigned when the need arises.
