The individual selected for this position will plan, design, implement, and improve metrology training, proficiency testing, lab assessment, traceability, uncertainty analysis, and quality systems for the Laboratory Metrology Program of the NIST Office of Weights and Measures. Train instructors to deliver exceptional training using adult learning methods. Train and evaluate state metrology laboratories to ISO/IEC 17025:
2017 standards to prepare them for lab accreditation audits. Provide expert technical assistance and management guidance to metrologists and lab administrators on calibrations, lab design, operations, and problem-solving. Develop documentary standards for laboratory metrologists and weights and measures officials. Publish papers, analyses, reports, and procedure in support of state weights and measures programs. BASIC REQUIREMENT:
Degree:
physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to the basic requirements applicants must also have 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 (ZP-IV at NIST) level. Specialized Experience is defined as experience in state metrology lab procedures for mass, volume, length, gravimetric, temperature, and pressure measurements; experience in teaching ISO/IEC 17025 concepts and assessing calibration laboratories; experience in designing courses and teaching adult learners in metrology subjects; experience in writing and reviewing documentary standards; experience in specification and evaluation of laboratory design for state metrology laboratories; experience in using and teaching statistical tools for evaluating measurement uncertainties and measurement assurance. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
